PM orders DBKL to implement changes to draft 2040 KL plan, gazette document by year-end
KUALA LUMPUR (July 18): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to immediately implement improvements to the Draft Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040 (KLSP 2040) and gazette the document before the end of this year.
Anwar, who chaired a briefing to hear and examine the report of the engagement sessions on the amendment of the Draft KLSP 2040 together with the Federal Territories Department and DBKL on Monday (July 17) said he was satisfied with the report that was presented.
He said DBKL needs to focus on maintaining forest reserves and open spaces to ensure the goal of making KL a green, healthy and vibrant city is achieved.
Besides, the prime minister said he agreed that affordable housing should be expanded to better cater to an increasing demand by KL residents.
“This proposal is in line with the government’s desire to provide affordable housing owned through the concept of Madani Neighbourhood in KL.
“The government is very committed to ensuring that the preparation of KLSP 2040 is comprehensive and inclusive for the people in line with the vision of Kuala Lumpur, City for All,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Anwar said based on the continuation of the engagement session held from May 18 to 26, DBKL had received a total of 639 views from 425 participants who attended the engagement sessions.
KLSP 2040 is one of the main components of the KL Development Plan 2040 which contains vision, goals, strategic directions and actions to drive KL for the next 20 years.
Among the content of the draft KLSP 2040 is integrating land use with infrastructure planning, transportation, provision of affordable housing, employment, public facilities as well as improving the quality of the environment and public space.
