Loke: Prasarana needs to improve monitoring of contractor work quality, blacklist underperformers
KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 9): Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said Prasarana Malaysia Bhd ought to improve the monitoring of the quality of work done by its contractors to resolve issues of facility malfunctions in railway stations, and blacklist those who underperform.
“The monitoring process has to be better. Of course, this is something that the management needs to pay more attention to,” he told reporters during a media briefing on Tuesday on Prasarana’s 2023 performance and future plans.
On blacklisting, however, he said no particular contractor can be pinpointed at the moment, as the maintenance work on railway stations involves multiple contractors.
According to Loke, Prasarana has been striving to improve its facilities since last year.
Currently, only six out of 319 lift units are unavailable, while three out of 656 escalators are out of service, and 204 units of lighting out of 86,681 are not in operation, and 61 units of toilets out of 1,136 are deemed faulty, he said.
However, there are still 96 locations out of 205 facing leaking issues, due to design problems and ageing infrastructure.
Loke added that Prasarana aims to have its facilities to be fully available and operational by the third quarter of this year.
