KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 11): The Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association (REHDA) Malaysia views the retraction of Construction Industry Development Board’s (CIDB) Quality Guidebook for Homeowners as a wise move.
In a media release on CIDB’s action, REHDA stated that the guidebook, intended to be used as a source for information on the Quality Assessment System in Construction (QLASSIC) governed by the Construction Industry Standard (CIS 7), “before this has somehow been misinterpreted and used as a defect specification or compliance requirement”.

“REHDA understands that homeowners want to ensure that their rights are protected against errant developers or contractors, but the guidebook was never meant to be used as a checklist of any sort,” said president, Datuk Ir Ho Hon Sang. (pictured)
“Thus, the retraction should be welcomed by all to avoid further misuse of the guidebook, and to prevent recurring confusion that will only cause unnecessary issues,” he added.
Ho also shared that a new standard guideline will be developed by the relevant parties.
“REHDA will be working very closely together with industry stakeholders to ensure that the new guideline will provide clarity and beneficial for all parties especially the rakyat,” said Ho.
