PM instructs DBKL to submit periodic reports on implementation of KL Structure Plan 2040
KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 9): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pictured) has instructed the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to submit periodic reports within the next two weeks, on the implementation of decisions made pertaining to the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040 (KLSP 2040), in order to improve the ease of doing business in the city.
However, Anwar did not disclose what were the specific decisions made during his meeting with the city council earlier.
Anwar said based on his prior meetings with foreign companies and investors operating in Malaysia, there are two aspects for Malaysia to improve, namely the lack of specialised expertise at the highest level; and the speed of regulatory approval, which is still not satisfactory.
“We cannot delay projects that have been decided and approved. That is why I have asked Datuk Mayor… we decided that within a period of two weeks, I want a report to be submitted on the implementation of the decisions we made earlier. Otherwise, this will result in a delay until next year,” he said during his speech at the launch of KLSP 2040 on Thursday.
“We have to accept the criticism well; don’t feel offended. It is true that there are delays,” Anwar added.
Earlier, Anwar officially launched the KLSP 2040, which contains the vision, goals, strategic directions and actions to drive Kuala Lumpur for the next 20 years.
Based on the vision of “City for All”, KLSP 2040 will elevate the capital city of Malaysia as an inclusive city based on sustainable development, international standard of management, and guaranteeing the quality of life for all people in the prosperous city.
The KLSP 2040 was previously delayed to allow for more engagement sessions with stakeholders. In July, Anwar asked DBKL to implement improvements to the KLSP 2040 draft, before it was gazetted, and the focus should, among others, be on maintaining forest reserve areas and open areas, while expanding affordable housing to meet the demand of city folks.
The KLSP 2040 was approved by the prime minister on Oct 4 and gazetted on Oct 19.
